INK HOP 2016 Blog Hop

One of the best parts of this crafting community is everyone's desire to inspire and share creativity with each other. Simon Hurley of Inklipse is no exception. He is an inspiring teenager with incredible talent. We heard of Simon from our friend, Lydia Fiedler (one of the kindest people you will ever meet!) a few months ago and started following him. When he asked us if we would like to participate in a blog hop, we couldn't refuse. The purpose of this hop is to share some fun projects from crafters you may or may not know about.

Our project for the hop features our Stripe Builder stamps and Shine Brighter stamps & dies.
While we really love the imagery from Shine Brighter, the real star of this card is the striped background! We created the ombre background with a single color of water-based dye ink and layered the colors on using the MISTI tool. It's REALLY important to use the MISTI tool so you can get exact/precise placement with each new layer of ink.
If you check out the diagram below, you can see how the gradation of color happens with each new layer of ink on the card. The first layer of ink went all over the striped background stamp, creating a subtle color. With each subsequent layer of ink, we omitted one stripe from the striped background stamp, making each layer more vibrant than the last. Different colors and brands of ink may require more or less layers, but that's the fun part. Find the colors and levels of colors that work best for your project!
Once the background is completed, we added a subtle glow by sponging some yellow ink onto our die cut light bulb. We even added some extra ink underneath the die cut layer for some extra dimension! Throw on a few sequins and we call this card done!
This card packs a punch and came together fairly quick! The Shine Brighter stamp set comes with some great sentiments and imagery that could take this basic card layout in several directions from sympathy, to Christmas, to birthdays...
Be sure to check out the projects the others have made as part of this blog hop!
